In his notification issued on Thursday, the DGP has also removed the investigative officer (IO), Vastrapur sub-inspector BK Saiyad, from the investigation process. The DGP has asked Vastrapur senior PI, MR Gupta, to take over the investigation and conduct a fresh probe and, according to the notification, has questioned Saiyad's intention behind the move. Drunk drivers are normally taken to Civil Hospital for the blood test.

In addition, the DGP has asked A-division ACP, PC Joshi to supervise the probe and submit a detailed report to sector-1 JCP, Ajay Tomar. Taking note of media reports on the incident, the DGP has asked Joshi to do a reality check and probe the sequence of events about the incident.

To strengthen the probe, police will analyse the CCTV footage CCTV camera of Himalaya Mall which caught on tape the speeding car allegedly driven by Labdhi Shah ramming into a parked bike and a rickshaw at around 4:45 am on January 1.

Gaurav Navnitbhai Rajguru (24), seated on the bike, died after the car ran over him. Following this, Rajguru's friends took Labdhi (19) to Vastrapur police station.
