Nearly a week after the first source of radiation was found in a scrap market in west Delhi’s Mayapuri area, another Cobalt 60 source was found and isolated, officials said on Wednesday, adding that more parts of the area would be scanned in the coming days.

“We kept a scanner on the scrap yard since the first incident took place last week. Fresh sources were found less than 500 m away from last week’s radiation sites,” a scientist at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

Panic gripped the area last week after the radiation leak. Six people had received radiation burns.
