Babul Supriyo's mother Sumitra Baral said that she is happy that her son, a first-time MP, was sworn in as minister. "Earlier I was known as mother of a singer, then a mother of a MP and now I will be known as a mother of a minister," she said. "I am very happy and I hope that as Babul had won lakhs of hearts through his songs, he will continue to win hearts of the masses through his developmental work," she added.

Supriyo's father Sunil Chandra Baral said that "during his election campaign for nearly three months I have seen how hard he worked to reach out to the people." "Day before yesterday when my son was talking to Prime Minister Narendra Modiji over phone, I was very happy," he added. Supriyo, who was an MP from Asansol constituency, is one of the only two BJP MPs elected from West Bengal where the saffron party is working hard to emerge as an alternative to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC and Left parties.
