NEW DELHI: After six days of evading arrest, Mohammed Nazran alias Ashish Malhotra, 32, who had stabbed his wife to death in Bangalore was finally arrested by the Delhi Police. The police had received a tip from their Bangalore counterparts that Nazran may be in the Capital. “We were keeping a watch for him and our teams were on the lookout,” said a police official.
The police found a knife and two cartridges on him at the time of arrest.
Nazran had married Brijlata in 1999. “Theirs was a love marriage. Brijlata had also changed her religion after marriage,” the official said. The Delhi-based couple had separated recently and Brijlata had shifted to Bangalore with her daughter.
On Friday last, the couple had an argument and the girl told the police that her father stabbed her mother. Police say the case now rests entirely on her statement made to a lower court.
