Goa Congress unit has said that they will approach the UPA government to seek financial package for the people affected by the closure of mining activity in the state.
State party unit president Subhash Shirodkar told reporters here yesterday that Congress MPs Shantaram Naik and Francisco Sardina would discuss with the Centre to seek financial help for the people who are affected by the closure of mining activity.
The iron ore mining industry is one of the largest economic activity in Goa, along with tourism and fishing.
Shirodkar said several thousands of people will lose their livelihood if mining activity remains stopped for a few more months.
In its recent verdict, the Supreme court halted the transportation and extraction of the ore, pending inquiry from the centrally empowered committee.
Shirodkar blamed the BJP-led state government for the current mess on mining front.
He said Congress is ready to help the state government to sort out the crisis by sitting across the table.
