Chief minister Digambar Kamat said at a press meet that Shirodkar, head constable Hussain Shaikh, constables Saish Pokle, Sandeep Pokle and Sanjay Parab have been suspended.

The Goa Police on Friday suspended inspector Ashish Shirodkar and four other officers after a video on youtube.com established their links with notorious Israeli drug peddler Atala.

Chief minister Digambar Kamat said at a press meet that Shirodkar, head constable Hussain Shaikh, constables Saish Pokle, Sandeep Pokle and Sanjay Parab have been suspended after Atala’s allegations that he had links with them.

The chief minister said the policemen had links with another Israeli drug dealer David Driham, who was arrested last month. All the five policemen were previously posted at the Anti-Narcotic Cell.

Kamat said that after Dudu’s interrogation, it was “felt that an inquiry needs to be conducted in the alleged police-mafia nexus”. Kamat said the crime branch of the Goa Police would conduct an inquiry into the matter.
