Gold bars worth about Rs 70 lakh have been seized from the possession of five persons at the international airport.
The accused, who were allegedly trying to smuggle gold bars into the country, were intercepted by customs officials after their arrival from Singapore here on Monday.
"On detailed examination of their baggage and personal search, four passengers had concealed gold bars in their rectum and one in his scarf," a press release issued today by the customs said.
A total of 28 pieces of gold bars (of 100 gms each) weighing 2.8 kgs were recovered from them. The value of the seized gold is assessed to be Rs 70 lakh, it said.
