Two major fires on Sunday gutted goods worth Rs9 lakh in the city. No casualties have, however, been reported thus far from the fire incidents.

The first incident was reported at around 3.20 am from Vaikunth Apartment near Jagdish Society in Ghodasar. Fire department officials said that meter on the main electricity line caught fire, which soon spread to wooden frames kept nearby.

The blaze burst into an inferno when the fire engulfed vehicles in the parking area.

Sources in the fire department said that residents in the area didn't have a clue about the incident.

"Some early risers saw smoke coming out of the apartment and they immediately informed the fire officials," said the source. Twenty vehicles including five cycles were went up in flames in the incident. It took fire brigade half an hour to bring the flames under control.

A second incident was reported on Saturday from a chemical factory in Naroda GIDC. The factory, Om Interchem, is owned by one Vivek Agrawal. Fire department officials said that overheating of the drier used to dry chemicals caused the accident. Goods worth Rs4 lakh was destroyed by the time flames were under control.
