The Government is inquiring whether the problem due to which the functioning of the Airport metro line has been stalled is a fault or a safety issue, Urban Development minister Kamal Nath said on here today.
"In Metro we are checking some of the issues that have been found, whether they are safety issues and if they are safety issues, what needs to be done to correct them so that the metro airport line can start," Nath said while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function.
"It is nothing to do with profits, it is safety and we are checking. Whether it is a fault or it is a safety issue, we are inquiring," he added.
Responding to a question on the Kochi metro project, Nath said that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) would take it up on the lines of the Chennai model.
"DMRC will take this up like in the Chennai model and we hope that we will be able to start this metro fast. Kochi is a priority for us," Nath said.
Asked if there was a chance of his getting a major portfolio before the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Nath said, "There is no such thing".
There is speculation that Nath is one of the front-runners for the post of Finance minister.
