A company secretary of a leading vernacular daily, who is a co-accused with Company Law Board member R Vasudevan in a graft case, today filed his second bail application in a Delhi court.
Company secretary Manoj Kumar Banthia filed the bail application before special CBI judge OP Saini who will hear it on January 7 after being intimated that the accused, meanwhile, had filed a similar plea in the Delhi high court.
The court had on December 10 dismissed the bail plea of Banthia on the ground that the investigation was still in its initial stage.
Meanwhile, it extended the judicial remand of CLB member Vasudevan and Banthia for 14 more days till January 5. The accused duo were produced in the court on the expiry of their judicial custody.
Earlier, the bail plea of Vasudevan was dismissed after CBI charged it had found the accused had amassed Rs2.27 crore in cash and bank deposits.
Banthia was arrested by CBI on November 23 along with Vasudevan for allegedly giving a bribe of Rs7 lakh to pass a a favourable order in a matter relating to the daily.
Around Rs55 lakh in cash, including the alleged bribe money, was recovered from Vasudevan's residence here during a search at the time of his arrest, the agency had said.
