Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) will cite its reasons before the high court on Tuesday.

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) will explain before the high court (HC) on Tuesday why it had denied Ashok Donnie, a student from Kolkata, admission in its law school.

Despite having cleared the common law admission test (CLAT) securing 427 rank among around 25,000 candidates, Ashok (19), the son of a painter, was denied a GNLU seat on grounds that he had passed his Std XII exams in the second attempt.

As per his CLAT ranking, he was eligible for admission to top law institutes.

“But GNLU denied him admission because he had not cleared his Std XII exam in the first attempt. During the hearing on June 12, GNLU’s counsel had sought time in the matter and hence hearing was posted for June 19,” said Ashok’s counsel Mukul Sinha.

In its interim order the HC had asked GNLU to block a seat for the student.
