It seems law is finally catching up with HN Chavda, an accused in the infamous dummy writers scam. An arrest warrant has been issued against Chavda, the then secretary of GSHSEB for allegedly engineering the dummy writers scam.
Following the warrant, Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) may soon arrest him in connection with the case. Investigating officer and assistant commissioner of police, DCB, Mayur Chavda told DNA that Chavda is one of the main conspirators in the case. Mayur confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued against Chavda.
If Chavda is arrested by the DCB, this will be the second arrest in the case. The first one to be arrested was Bhagwatsinh Rawat, the tutor who was dictating the answers to Harsh Kotak and Komal Patel.
Chavda, was suspended from his job, following the incident.
It is believed that he lend a helping hand to the two students in getting duplicate medical certificates and dummy writers. He was also allegedly in contact with the other conspirators of the scam.
The other big shots whose names have cropped up in connection with the dummy writers scam include Muktak Kapadia, trustee of HB Kapadia School, Sanjay Patel and Pravin Kotak, influential builders, Ranjita Gill, principal of HB Kapadia School-Memnagar.
All these people allegedly provided logistics in bringing dummy writers during the boards. Chavda, who was the then secretary of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), was accused as the brain behind the whole scam and also allegedly helped the influential builders get dummy writers for their children.
Chavda was transferred to Anand as a principal of District Institute of Education & Training after a report was submitted by the inquiry committee formed to probe the dummy writers scam. The inquiry found Chavda failing in his duty and facilitating the entry of private tutor in the school premises and examination hall. Other than his transfer, the state government did not take nay punitive action against Chavda.
When this was revealed in a response to an RTI application by Manish Doshi, member of Gujarat University Executive Council, the state education department issued a chargesheet against Chavda. At present, according to sources, Chavda is on leave.
