Gujarat gets highest Central assistance in power sector: Solanki

All the districts of the state are now covered under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna. The state gets 982 MW power from NTPC power plants at Rs2 per unit.

Gujarat state has got the highest financial assistance of around Rs 35,000 crore from the Union Government for the power sector, Union minister of State for Power Bharat Solanki said.

Giving details of the Central assistance, Solanki said, "Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has given financial assistance of Rs17,585 crore for various power projects in the state while Rural Electricity Corporation (REC) has given Rs13,078 crore."

"Apart from this, national power grid is investing Rs4,000 crore in the state to develop infrastructure for transmission of power," Solanki told PTI. All the districts of the state are now covered under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna. The state gets 982 MW power from NTPC power plants at Rs2 per unit, he said.

Elaborating on the achievements of the power ministry in 2009-10, the Union minister, hailing from Gujarat said, that the capacity addition target for 2009-10 is 14,507 MW against which, capacity of 5,517 MW has already been commissioned by October 21, 2009. The Central government has accorded top priority to power sector, he said.
