On Friday, a bench of the Gujarat high court appointed a three member expert committee to resolve the issue of incorrect questions worth 12 marks asked in the math paper of the GSHSEB's Std 12 science stream held on March 12. The committee comprises Dr AM Vaidya, former head of the department of mathematics at Gujarat University along with two other experts - Dr MH Vasavada and Dr JC Sharma. The bench has been entrusted the task to check the questions and identify errors if any. Further hearing on the matter will take place on April 16.
The issue came to light when Dhiru Patel, a maths teacher, filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the high court citing mistakes in the mathematics question paper during the recently concluded board exams.
"We have filed the petition as 12 marks worth of questions were found to be incorrect. The paper setter has not followed guidelines for setting up questions, leading to questions becoming very lengthy for 44 marks," said Digant Popat, counsel for Patel.
He said, "The court prima facie found substance in our petition and has asked us to submit names of three university-level teachers to look into the issue."
