The Gujarat high court is all set to get five new judges (all drawn from lawyers' fraternity) whose names were recommended for appointment by the chief justice of Gujarat high court.
The required pre-appointment process, including verification of age, has been initiated. The lawyers whose names have been approved by Rashtrapati Bhavan for appointment as judge of the Gujarat high court have been intimated. The five lawyers are Yogesh Lakhani, Paresh Upadhyay, Ashish Desai, CL Soni and NV Anjariya.
According to sources in the high court, the chief justice had recommended the name of 9 candidates and sent the proposal for their appointment to the Union law department and then to the Rahstrapati Bhavan. Out of these, the names of five lawyers have been finalised for appointment as judges of the high court.
Source said the age verification process, which is mandatory before appointment, has been started and they are likely to be appointed by the President soon.
Earlier, in February this year, six judges were appointed as additional judge of the Gujarat high court. They were Sonia Gokani, PP Bhatt, Bela Trivedi and GB Shah from the judicial service, while Justice JB Pardiwala and RM Chhaya were selected from among lawyers.
