Gujarat has developed and achieved many heights in the last 50 years because of its people, who are entrepreneur, and hard working and nobody can stop the development and progress of the state, Ahmed Patel, political secretary of Sonia Gandhi said.
While addressing a public convention organised by the state Congress on state's Foundation Day, Patel said credit for the progress and develoment should entirely go to its people.
The Congress boycotted the state government organised events to celebrate Golden Jubilee of the state and had organised its own function in Gandhinagar.
"Even at the time of Independence in 1947 and formation of Gujarat state in 1960, Gujarat was far more developed than other states," he said, stressing that the development is not of recent past.
He also hit out at chief minister Narendra Modi and BJP government for claiming credits for the development in
industrial and agriculture sector.
"Gujarat is known for Mahatma Gandhi, Sadrdar Patel and Ravi Shankar Maharaj, who created a unique pride of Gujarat and not those who put their hoardings clad in designer made clothes," he said, refering to Modi's penchant for his hoardings.
Former textiles minister Shankersinh Vaghela said that Gujarat's image got tainted and tarnished as people with fascist ideology are ruling the state and they should be thrown out of power at the earliest.
Vaghela said that Gujarat government is celebrating the state's Golden jubilee but nowhere photographs of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Indulal Yagnik and others, who devoted their life for the cause of state and nation are seen.
"Lets not forget that Gujarat has produced Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel and because of them Gujarat is great. It is also a fact that Gujarat is great not because of Modi," he added.
Other senior leaders and chief minister of Goa, Haryana and Delhi, Union ministers Anand Sharma, Tushar Chaudhary, Dinsha Patel and Bharatsinh Solanki and local leaders were also present in the convention in the state capital Gandhinagar.
