Gujarat may get intelligence training institute soon

Gujarat may soon get permission by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) to house a regional training centre for intelligence officers in the western region of the country. This institute will be helpful in developing all the skills required for intelligence gathering.

Additional chief secretary, home department, Ahmedabad, Balwant Singh while speaking at a programme in city said, "The centre will start an intelligence training institute in Gujarat for the western region. This regional training centre will generate a specific cadre, especially dedicated to the Intelligence Bureau".

Balwant Singh said that the state government is in dialogue with the centre to start the prestigious institute in Gujarat. However he added, "So far nothing has been decided but we are hopeful".

The trainers at the institute will be appointed by the centre. "The institute will surely strengthen the state's intelligence gathering capability," Balwant Singh said.

MHA has already started such regional training centres in some parts of the country and an institute for the western part is still to be established. Seeing to the current infrastructure and willingness to start new operations, the central government may zero in Gujarat soon.

Joint commissioner of police, sector 2, Atul Karwal who was also part of the programme said that the city police are all set to fight with any threat to internal security.

Karwal said that city is set to have CCTV camera coverage not only to curb traffic issues but also for vigilance on the city roads.
