Vigil was stepped on Friday at communally sensitive places, vital installations and places of religious importance in Gujarat after blasts rocked Malegaon town of neigbouring Maharashtra, official sources said.

AHMEDABAD: Vigil was stepped on Friday at communally sensitive places, vital installations and places of religious importance in Gujarat after blasts rocked Malegaon town of neigbouring Maharashtra, official sources said.

"Gujarat is already on high-alert following the just concluded Ganesh Chaturti festival and the coming Navarati festival," K C Kapoor, principal secretary (Home) told PTI.

"Following the blast in Malegaon, vigil has been stepped up at places of religious importance like Ambaji, Dwarka and Somnath," he said.

 "Security was also stepped up at vital installations in the state like dams, power stations and industrial establishments," Kapoor said.

Combing operations have been undertaken in some places in the state, the official said.
