State DGP said that mobile units would go to each police line at least twice a week and provide services three hours in the morning and in the evening.

The Gujarat police department is taking a number of measures to ensure safe and quality health service to its personnel and their family members, state director general of police SS Khandwawala said here today.

"We are planning for mobile units that would conduct regular checkups and provide OPD service to various police lines (residential quarters) in the city," Khandwawala told reporters during his visit to the Police Welfare Hospital (PWH) in Shahibaug area here.

He said that these mobile units would go to each police lines at least twice a week and provide services three hours in the morning and in the evening.

"Besides mobile units, we are also planning visit of specialist doctors in the hospital every week," he added.

Khandwawala said that similar provisions could also be made in other districts which already have health cards issued to police personnel for regular checkups.

The DGP said that they are in talks with private hospitals to do free health checkup of policemen above 35 years of age once a year.

"This would help us know who are fit and who requires attention," Khandwawala said.

Khandwawala said that they also plan to open the PWH open for general public.

"Here the policemen and their families get medical service free of cost. We also plan to open it for general public, but it will be chargeable," he said, adding that charges would be 50% of the prevailing market rates.
