Gujarat saints want a law for Ram temple

Nearly 200 sages from various parts of the state representing various sects and temples, participated in the 'Sant Sammelan - Gujarat' organised on Saturday at the state head quarter of VHP.

Saints of Gujarat have demanded a law to ensure that the Ram Janmabhumi Temple at Ayodhya is built. Nearly 200 sages from various parts of the state representing various sects and temples, participated in the 'Sant Sammelan - Gujarat' organised on Saturday at the state head quarter of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Leading sages like Jashomati Nandandas of ISKCON, Ahmedabad; Atmanandaji Saraswati Maharaj from Botad; BalKrishnadas Swami of Ahmedabad Swaminarayan Gurukul and Chaitanya Shambhu Maharaj of Ahmedabad participated in the event.

VHP leaders like Dr. Kaushik Mehta, general secretary of VHP Gujarat, Dileep Trivedi, president, VHP Gujarat were also present. Dr Pravin Togadia, international secretary general of VHP was not present but conveyed his speech through telephone.

Apart from the resolution demanding a law for the Ram Janmabhumi Temple the other resolution included beginning a 'Hanumant Shakti Jagaran Anusthhan' (recitation of Hanuman Chalisa across the state from August 16 for three months) programme.

The meet also asked the sages to come forward to help tackle naxalism in the country.  "The main resolution was to create a nationwide awareness movement for the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya. We also want to build consciousness in the country through recitation of Hanuman Chalisha to fire up Hanumant Shakti across the country," Dr Mehta said.

Dr Togadia addressed the meeting through the telephone and said it was the right time to create support for the Ram temple.
