The tsunami of violence which has rocked Punjab and Haryana after the verdict in the rape case against Dera Saccha Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh holding him guilty in the rape case has now spread to the capital, New Delhi.
A special CBI court in Panchkula today convicted flamboyant self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a 2002 rape case, triggering widespread violence and arosn by his supporters in Punjab and Haryana.
At least 17 people were killed and more than 100 injured in the violence that left a trail of destruction and vandalism, officials said.
According to initial reports, two buses have been set ablaze in Nand Nagari in New Delhi. Two empty rakes of Rewa Express at Anand Vihar Terminal railway station have been set on fire.
Buses have been set afire near Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in New Delhi. In total, violence have been reported from 7 places from the capital. Dera followers are resorting to violence in North East Delhi. Reports of violence have been reported from Khayla, Shadara, Loni Borders, Badarpur. Two people are reportedly severely injured with 80% burn.
In light of violence, security has been hiked at BJP HQ. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has appealed for calm.
