Haryana Assembly Election Results: Important constituencies, winners
The party whose symbol on the ballot box is a key might be a 'key' player in deciding who gets to form the next government in Haryana.
Counting of votes for Haryana Assembly Elections 2019 concluded. Attracting the limelight is Dushyant Chautala, leader of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) who managed to replace the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), as the third force in the state. INLD, which ruled the state from 2000 to 2004 was once the main opposition party in Haryana.
JJP only emerged last year and has received a remarkable mandate from the people of Haryana. The party whose symbol on the ballot box is a key might be a 'key' player in deciding who gets to form the next government in Haryana.
According to the Election Commission trends, BJP won in 40 seats and the Congress in 31 seats.
The majority mark in the Haryana assembly is 46. With neither party looking to win the majority, JJP is emerging to be the kingmaker, becoming the third-largest party by winning 10 seats.
65% of over 1.83 crore voters turned up to use their franchise on Monday. The Election Commission of India had set up 19,578 polling stations.
The campaign drew to a close on October 19 with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, JJP's Dushyant Chautala, and INLD's Abhay Singh Chautala, being the top leaders who campaigned in Haryana.
Congress and other opposition parties focused on issues like unemployment, slowing economy and Khattar government's failure of keeping the promises.
Opposition parties witnessed mass exodus ahead of the elections with several Congress leaders switching allegiance. Former Congress chief Ashok Tanwar quit the party and announced his support to the JJP and even campaigning for Dushyant Chautala-led outfit.
In the previous polls held in 2014, the BJP formed the government in Harayana winning 47 seats and added one more seat after winning Jind bypoll earlier this year. The INLD had won 19 seats in the assembly while the Congress had 15 legislators.
The BSP and the SAD had bagged one seat each while five Independents were also victorious.
