Haryana Assembly Polls: BJP releases first list of 78 candidates

Haryana CM ML Khattar to contest from Karnal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 78 candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections.

Three eminent sports personalities have been named as candidates. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt is to contest from the Baroda constituency, while ex-hockey captain Sandeep Singh and wrestler Babita Phogat will contest from the Pehowa and Dadri constituencies respectively.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will contest from Karnal. State BJP president Subhash Barala is the candidate from the Tohana constituency.

The list was declared after the BJP's Central Election Committee (CEC) met under the presidentship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah today. The meet was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, along with other members of the CEC.

Seven sitting MLAs have been left out from the list, while 38 members got their tickets this time. The list includes seven women and two Muslim candidates.
