Vikas Dubey was shot dead by the police on Friday morning after he tried to flee.

'I don't want to go to Kanpur. I have no relations with him,' said Sarla Dubey, mother of dreaded UP gangster Vikas Dubey, who was shot dead by the police on Friday morning after he tried to flee. Police had asked her if she wanted to travel to Kanpur so see her deceased son.

Vikas' misdeeds have earned him the wrath of his mother, who has disowned him for the horrific crime he did on July 3 that left eight policemen dead. Even before he was arrested from Ujjain on Thursday morning, Sarla had expressed pain over his actions and said that the government should do whatever it feels is right.

"It doesn't matter what I say, govt is going to do what is appropriate,” she had told reporters at her residence in Lucknow.

The old woman on Friday said that she found out about her son's arrest through the news on TV. "The kids were watching TV and I overheard his name and found out that he had been arrested," Sarla Devi told news agency ANI.

Vikas Dubey was being brought back to Kanpur from Ujjain on Friday morning when one of the vehicles of the convoy of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) overturned. According to sources quoted by news agency ANI, Dubey attempted to flee after the car overturned. Shots were fired and he was rushed to a hospital. However, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The gangster was arrested by the police in Ujjain on Thursday morning. He was on the run for the last six days and had come to Ujjain to offer prayers at Mahakal Temple, where he was identified by a security guard at the temple.

The gangster is the main accused in the encounter that took place in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur last week, in which a group of assailants allegedly opened fire on a police team, which had gone to arrest Dubey.
