Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy was rushed to the hospital after his nose started bleeding during a press conference in Bengaluru on Sunday. Kumaraswamy attempted to stop the bleeding with a cloth, but his shirt became soaked with blood.
The press conference was held following a meeting of BJP and JD(S) leaders, including state BJP President BY Vijayendra, Kumaraswamy, and Karnataka's Leader of Opposition, R Ashoka. The leaders gathered to discuss corruption allegations in Karnataka, specifically focusing on the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam.
Vijayendra stated that the senior leaders from both BJP and JD(S) met to address the ongoing corruption under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's leadership. He accused the Congress government of embezzling funds intended for the welfare of the Scheduled Tribe community in the ST Development Corporation scam, among other corrupt activities.
To protest against these alleged scams, the BJP and JD(S) have planned a 'Padyatra' (foot march) from August 3 to August 10. Vijayendra announced that former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Kumaraswamy would participate in this seven-day march, and national BJP leaders would join on the final day. He emphasized that they would not be deterred if the government attempted to halt their march.
R Ashoka added that the 'Padyatra' aimed to highlight the corruption of CM Siddaramaiah and the Congress government. He accused the government of looting funds meant for the Scheduled Tribe community and involving itself in numerous scams. Ashoka assured that leaders from both BJP and JD(S) would be part of this protest.
In response, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar accused the BJP of trying to discredit CM Siddaramaiah with their planned 'Padyatra'. He claimed the BJP aimed to destabilize the Congress government by protesting the alleged MUDA scam. Shivakumar argued that the Congress originally introduced the concept of 'Padyatras' in India, and now the BJP was using it against them.
Shivakumar accused the BJP of being involved in numerous scams themselves and criticized them for sending their own agencies to investigate the Valmiki Corporation case, causing unnecessary trouble. He suggested that the BJP and JD(S) were losing ground in Karnataka and were attempting to regain influence through the 'Padyatra'. He vowed to expose the BJP and JD(S) by releasing a list of illegal site allocations made during their tenure.
Shivakumar also defended the Chief Minister, stating that the MUDA had taken over the CM's land without notification and later compensated with site allotments. He asserted that these allotments were made according to bylaws and that the Chief Minister's family had accepted the sites allocated to them during the previous government.
