Hearing in the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra Saraswathi are the main accused, was adjourned to December 16 by a local court here today in view of the boycott of court by lawyers.
The lawyers boycotted courts demanding to fill the post of the president of the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum here. The strike would continue till Friday, Puducherry Bar Association sources said.
Principal district and sessions judge D Krishnaraja posted the hearing to December 16. Of the 24 accused, only 11 were present at the court today. The absentees included the two seers, who are charged under IPC sections 120 (B)(Conspiracy) and 302 (murder).
Sankararaman, manager of Varadarajaperumal temple in Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu, was allegedly murdered on the premises of the temple on September 3, 2004. Trial in the case had been shifted to Puducherry last year.
So far 21 witnesses have been examined and five have turned hostile. Nineteen more witnesses will be examined on December 16.
