Heat-wave sweeps Western Orissa districts

Though initially it was predicted by the Met office at Bhubaneswar that the heat wave conditions would prevail for 48 hours, but over a a week has passed and there is no respite from the heat.

Normal life has been affected in almost all 11 Western Orissa districts with the temperature above 40 degree celsius.

With the day temperature remaining between 44 degree celsius to 43 degree celsius, according to official reports, the situation has gone from bad to worse in towns like Sambalpur, Titlagarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bolangir and steel city of Rourkela.
   
To add to misery, there are unscheduled power-cuts apart from the normal three hours.
   
Though the district administrations of all western districts claim to have held preparatory meetings to tackle the situation, no awareness campaign has yet been taken up to apprise the people of precautions to be taken to combat heat wave conditions.
