NEW DELHI: The rains that came as a surprise relief from heat for the denizens however, resulted in jams in several places as blockades were created due to water-logging and uprooted trees.
High velocity winds blowing at a speed of up to 94 km per hour accompanied the rains that started at around 9 am.
Traffic at major stretches like the Vikas Marg and Mathura Road were also severely affected even as civic authorities received numerous complaints of water-logging from various parts of the city.
The city received rains for about two hours measuring up to 6.2 mm, bringing the temperature down to 22 degrees Celsius by 11 am from 31.8 degrees Celsius in the morning, the Met Department said.
The weatherman attributed the showers to a cyclonic circulation across northern region which brought a cluster of clouds over the capital.
In Lutyen's Delhi, trees in many areas were uprooted and branches fell on the roads due to the winds.
Two domestic flights were diverted from Delhi to Lucknow and Jaipur in the morning due to the rains.
