Heritage lovers have demanded that the historic building of Ahmedabad Stock Exchange (ASE) at Manekchowk be preserved and converted into a museum. They say the marvellous structure should not be sold to be demolished.

Chairman of the state government’s Heritage Consultative Committee, PK Ghosh, told DNA that he would write to the government and the AMC to preserve the building and establish a museum in it.

“The old building of ASE is an ‘A’ grade heritage building and it        cannot be demolished without prior permission of the heritage committee,” said Ghosh, adding “I’m all for a museum on Ahmedabad’s economic history and it should be in the Manekchowk building of ASE.”

Eminent historian Rizwan Kadri said, “There is no doubt that the building is part of the rich cultural heritage of the city and it should be preserved at any cost.”
