High alert in 3 UP districts after Naxal attack in Maharashtra

The alert has been sounded on the basis of the reports sent by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Three districts of Uttar Pradesh - Chandauli, Mirzapur, and Sonbhadra - have been put on high alert after the Naxal attack in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district in which 15 jawans and a civilian were killed.

The alert has been sounded on the basis of the reports sent by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to the Uttar Pradesh Police.

The DGP, Headquarters, UP Police, has issued instructions to the police to launch an intensive checking drive in Naxal affected districts of the state.

Naxals on Wednesday blew up an improvised explosive device when a unit of the Quick Response Team (QRT) of Gadchiroli Police was on way to provide reinforcements to the police station in Kurkheda.

The blast was triggered near Lendali Nullah in Jamburkheda village.

ATS chief Anand Kumar has instructed the police captains of Naxalite affected districts to maintain strict vigilance in their respective areas to thwart any untoward situation.

The Central intelligence agencies have also put a high alert on Indo-Nepal border adjacent to Uttar Pradesh, where 39 Lok Sabha seats have gone to polls so far.

The remaining 41 seats will go to polls during three phases of the polling, with the last phase of voting on May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
