Holi celebrated with zeal in Punjab, Chandigrah and Haryana

In Chandigarh, 700 policemen were put on duty today to combat anti-social elements and prevent drunken brawls.

Holi, the festival of colours, was today celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh amid beefed up security arrangements.

In Punjab's Amritsar district, BSF jawans celebrated Holi at the Attari international border and applied 'gulal' (colour) on each other's faces.

BJP MP from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu along with his wife paid obeisance at the Durgiana temple in the city and later celebrated the festival with BJP workers.

The holy city of Anandpur Sahib in Punjab was tastefully decorated on the occasion.

The festival, which brings in the bright days of summer, was celebrated with equal zeal and excitement in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Ferozepur.

Tight security arrangements were made in the two states in the wake of large scale violence on Saturday following filing of a fresh murder case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Punjab governor Shivraj Patil, Haryana governor Jagannath Pahadia, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda greeted people on the occasion.
