NEW DELHI: In a case of "honour killing", a young couple hailing from Uttar Pradesh was done to death in the national capital allegedly by the relatives of the girl.

Geeta (20) and Rajkumar (22) were allegedly beaten to death by her brother-in-law Sanjay and uncle Devender on May 13 after the couple refused to live separately, a senior police official said on Monday.

While Sanjay, in whose house the couple was tortured, landed in the police net, Devender is yet to be caught.

The incident came to light yesterday when police managed to identify the couple whose bodies were found in a decomposed state in south-west Delhi's Dwarka locality.

The family of Geeta was against her relationship with Rajkumar, an unemployed youth.

The couple, belonging to the same caste and 'gotra', had eloped three months ago and managed to get married through court, an official said.

They were tracked by infuriated relatives to Meerut and were brought to the Dwarka residence of Sanjay, where the brother-in-law and the uncle allegedly pressurised the couple to separate.

As the couple refused, they were beaten to death allegedly by Sanjay and Devender, who threw their bodies in a drain.

Devender is still absconding and efforts are on to nab him.

This is the third incident of alleged honour killing reported recently.
