Significantly, after beheading her own sister at a nearby field, the brother returned home and waited for the police to arrest him. When police arrested him on Saturday morning, he was sitting outside the house with blood-soaked knife in his hand.

A resident of Zakir Colony in Lisadi Gate area of Meerut, Gulfasaan alias Gullu had an affair with Abid of the same colony for the past one year. Both wanted to get married but Gulfasaan’s father and brother were against their marriage.

They had put a lot restriction and warned the girl not to meet Abid. About two months ago, both got an opportunity to meet and ran away from their home. Later, both got married and started living in nearby Lakkhipura area.

Her father Kallu Gazi and brother Aas Mohammad were very annoyed with her eloping with Abid whom they disliked. About a week ago, Aas Mohammad had publicly announced in the colony that he would behead her sister for daring to go against the family members.

On Friday night, he went to Gulfasaan’s house and asked her to accompany him on the pretext of father’s illness. On way back to home, he took her sister to a nearby field and beheaded her with a sharp knife at around 4 am on Saturday.

He returned home early morning with knife in his hand to announce that he killed his sister who brought disrepute to the family. Neighbours and relatives informed the police which arrested Aas Mohammad and recovered the body of his sister from the field.

The arrested man told the police that he had done nothing wrong in killing his own sister. "For us, family honour is bigger than life of any family member. She brought disrepute to the family and had to be punished so that others don't dare to follow her," he told the Police, during interrogation.

“Prima facie, it looks like a case of honour killing. We have arrested the brother and interrogating him to ascertain the motive behind the murder,” said Mohammad Aslam, the SHO Lisadi Gate Police Station.
