consecutive term later this evening. Haryana governor Jagannath Pahadia will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Hooda at the Raj Bhawan at a simple function, an official spokesman said .

Hooda was chosen to head the Congress Legislature Party in Haryana by party president Sonia Gandhi after day-long consultations with three party observers who had met individual party legislators here on Friday night.

The 62-year-old 'jat' leader, representing the caste that comprises around 22 per cent of the state population, will be Haryana's 21st chief minister. The Congress, which had a strength of 40 MLAs, staked the claim to form the Government on Friday after seven independents extended support to it when the party fell six short of simple majority in the 90-member House.

Other parties like the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 31 seats, its ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) one, Haryana Janhit Congress six and the BSP one.
