Hours before US President Barack Obama landed in New Delhi, Pakistani forces on Sunday violated the ceasefire agreement along the International Border in the R S Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, Pakistani soldiers targeted Indian forward posts along the border with mortars and small arms with unprovoked firing in the early hours of the day. The Border Security Force personnel deployed in the sector returned fire, with both forces exchanging rounds for a reported two hours. No casualties have been reported.

Further details are awaited. According to reports, The US had last week warned Pakistan of 'consequences' if any cross-border attack is traced back to the country during President Obama's visit of India.

President Obama, who is the chief guest of this year's Republic Day parade, will be the first U.S. president to attend the Republic Day celebrations. Obama, who visited India in 2010, is also the first U.S. president to visit the country twice while in office.
