Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu who has joined Congress ahead of assembly poll in Punjab, on Monday said that he has come back to his roots.
Addressing to the media, Sidhu said, "I am a born Congressman, this is my 'ghar wapsi'."
Congress leader Ajay Maken welcomed Sidhu at Congress party headquarters. "Log kehte hain Sidhu party ko Maa kehta tha. Lekin Maa to Kaikayi bhi thi. Sabko pata hai Manthara kaun hai Punjab mein," said Siddhu.
"Polls are a battle for honour of Punjab. Today, in Punjab 55% people are young between the age of 18-39." he said.
"Who was making conspiracy against Sidhu in Punjab? Who is that Manthara? People know the Manthara very well," he added.
Sidhu also said that drugs are a reality in Punjab and lives of youth are being destroyed.
Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur had joined Congress in November last year leading to speculation that he may follow suit.
"Indian National Congress (INC) welcomes S Navjot Singh Sidhu into Congress family and we thank Congress Vice President for his visionary approach in bringing together like-minded people on common platform under the Congress umbrella," Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a statement.
