NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old man was arrested here on Saturday for allegedly strangling his mother to death over a financial dispute, police said.
Police said Vipul, an aspirant of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), first mixed sleeping pills in the food meant for her mother Kailash Devi, 55, and then tied her legs and hands with a rope at their home in their Rohini Sector-15 of northwest Delhi.
He then allegedly strangled her to death on Friday evening.
According to police, Vipul had purchased sleeping pills from a shop on Thursday. After murdering his mother he went out of home. Vipul's father Ravi Karan was not at home when he killed his mother.
Vipul later slashed his wrist and told the police three men came to their house and said they were relatives of his mother and wanted to meet her, the police said.
“Vipul told us that the men mixed sedatives in his drink and he became unconscious. After that they strangled his mother to loot their house, he said. His statement has many contradictions. Vipul was questioned intensively upon which he broke down and confessed to killing his mother,” said a police official.
