After a girl at IIM-Ahmedabad tested positive for swine flu, municipal authorities today kept the eight girls who shared a dormitory with her under observation while the prestigious B-school continued with its academic activities as scheduled.
The girl of the post-graduate programme in management had tested positive for swine flu yesterday but she left for her home in Delhi before the test results were received.
"The girl who tested positive for swine flu at IIM-A yesterday has been traced. She is at her home in New Delhi," Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) medical officer Dr SP Kulkarni said. The AMC counterparts in New Delhi have been informed about the case, he added.
"The source from which the girl contracted the virus has not been detected so far. The girl had not gone overseas."
AMC officials held a meeting with senior faculty members of the institute including its director and asked them to take necessary steps to stop further spread of the disease on the campus. Some students were seen wearing masks in the campus.
AMC authorities have kept the eight girls who were sharing the dormitory at the IIM-A hostel with the ailing girl under obesrvation, Kulkarni said.
An official statement issued by IIM-A said the institute is continuing with its academic activities as scheduled.
"In the meeting with the IIM-A director Dr Samir Baura we have explained the precautions to be taken in wake of the incident," Kulkarni said.
An AMC doctor said posters giving information on swine flu have been distributed to IIM-A officials and they have been asked to create awareness among student.
Meanwhile, entry to the IIM-A has been restricted and only students and visitors who have prior appointment are allowed to get in.
