In an attempt to bridge the divide between academia and industry, the post graduate programme for executive (PGPX) of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad hosted ‘Connexion’.
The event was attended by faculties of different IIMs and various people from the industry. It also saw a discussion on ‘nurturing thought leaders’.
Talking about what business schools in the country should do to inculcate better leadership qualities, chairman & CEO, Edelweiss Rashesh Shah said that apart from the usual syllabus there is a need to focus on improving the interpersonal skills of the students.
Shah said that a good leader usually has strategy instinct, people instinct and risk instinct.
The event also saw the presence of former chairman of Railway Board KC Jena, executive director & CEO of Wagh Bakri Tea Group Parag Desai and faculty of IIMA Arvind Sahay, as the panel chair.
Shah also talked about the need to identify leaders and the importance of good communication.
Desai talked about how an organisation can develop leadership qualities among its employees.
“There is a need to develop in an employee a passion for the organisation’s product. Care should also be taken to give a better quality of life to the employee,” said Desai.
Talking about the focus of the panel discussion, student of PGPX Prasad Prasad said, “The management function has faced some turbulence over the past decade. Today’s leaders are expected to shift gears quite often to match the varying needs of their organisations.”
He said the event is a platform for CEOs of diverse companies to deliberate on their vision of how to develop better leaders for the future.
