Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has emphasised on education for all, a school in Bihar, for lack of rescources has been bundling children in one room for their lessons.
Located in Akhlaspur near Kaimur, a middle school has been teaching 300 students at the same time in a single hall, with six teachers giving lessons simultaneously.
The hall has been divided into two — with students from Class 1 to 6 in one half of the room and lectures for Class 7 and 8 being taken in the other half. To make matters worse, basic facilities like desks are only available for the higher grade students, leaving the primary classes to sit on the floors.
Ramakant Singh, a teacher at the school, said, "Since we have only one hall and 300 students learn at the same time, the students are unable to study properly. During rains, the situation worsens as the roofs leak." Another teacher, Sangeeta Kumari, highlighted a different problem. "The voices of two teachers echo around the classroom, which leads to confusion," she said.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate Dr Naval Kishor Choudhary said, "We have written a letter to the Circle Officer for a proposal to grant land for the school."
