In a shocking case, the father of a dead woman has filed a complaint against her in-laws alleging that she committed suicide as she was harassed by them.
According to sources, the father of Laxmi Kakheriya (20) has lodged a complaint with Meghaninagar police alleging that Laxmi committed suicide owing to pressure from her in-laws for dowry. Meghaninagar police said that in his complaint, Chote Kakheriya has said that Laxmi used to frequently call him up saying that her in-laws were pressuring her for dowry.
Laxmi, who was eight months pregnant, committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of her house on June 16. As soon as the last rites of the girl were completed on Saturday morning, her father filed a complaint with Meghaningar police.
The complaint was filed against Laxmi's husband Sukhdev, father-in-law Omprakash, mother-in-law Geeta and sister-in-law Neera. He has further alleged that the accused used to harass Laxmi to bring valuables and other items from her home.
Kakheriya has alleged that his daughter was physically and mentally harassed by her in-laws. It was because of this torture that his daughter decided to commit suicide, the complaint alleges.
The Kakheriyas are originally residents of Uttar Pradesh, sources said. Meghaninagar police inspector SF Saiyad told DNA, "We have arrested the husband and his father in connection with the case. We have already produced them in court. The matter is under investigation."
