In India under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code homosexuality is considered a criminal offence, along with sexual activities "against the order of nature" so when media reported that a female Sub-Inspector from Punjab married her partner, the images from the wedding went viral.

However in an interview with Hindustan Times 44-year-old Manjit Sandhu who married her 27-year-old partner cleared the air.

“I am not a police officer and have not undergone any sex-change procedure,” Manjit, who works as a warden for the state government, said to HT.

Sandhu was unhappy that her wedding became such a publicised affair and condemned the media for spreading false information.

Her family and the family of her bride were all present during the ceremony.

The wedding took place at a temple in Pucca Bagh, Jalandhar.

Sub-inspector or not, this wedding has definitely broken a lot of homosexuality taboos.
