Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that it will be the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) that will give the country "a new winner" and "a new Prime Minister" in 2019 elections. Yadav was speaking to Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary via videoconferencing.
"We are part of the Mahagatbandhan; there are many leaders who are part of the Mahagathbandhan in different states. All opposition parties are working to ensure a win on maximum number of seats," he said.
The SP leader said the mahagathbandhan also includes the Congress, even though the grand old party is contesting elections separately in UP. "Every state has a different logic that applies. Priyanka ji and Rahul ji are building their party, so let them focus on their strategy," he said.
Akhilesh went on to claim that the SP-BSP-RLD combine will "decimate" the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. On his alliance with Mayawati, Akhilesh said, "SP workers support the BSP and vice versa. We will ensure the win of our alliance. Our votes will be transferable." Akhilesh, however, stopped short of explaining his election plan in details saying that the "BJP will copy it".
Meanwhile, BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria said a "new history" will be written on May 23, adding, "Mahagathbandhan's DNA is about the fight for ideology. Modi and his party can try as much as they wanted but the SP-BSP alliance will achieve its aim."
