This announcement from the defence minister comes amid government's assessment that there will be increase in terrorist attacks and infiltration attempts.

India today said it will take whatever steps are needed to prevent and defeat "inimical" elements against peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.

This announcement from the defence minister AK Antony comes amid government's assessment that there will be increase in terrorist attacks and infiltration attempts.

"The attempts to infiltrate is increasing. And our assessment is that this trend will continue, because people who are inimical to our country feel that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is improving. Normalcy is fast returning. They cannot tolerate it.

"So, they want to change the trend. There are more attempts of terrorist attack.... Our armed forces are always taking precautions. So, rest assured that we will take whatever steps are needed to prevent and defeat this," Antony told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
