Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that the Indian Army is epitome of professionalism, valour and selfless service, while conveying his warm felicitations to the brave men and women, on the occasion of the 66th Army Day.

In his message he said that the Army not only defends the borders and fights terrorism, it has also shown an exceptional spirit of service when called upon to support internal security or in response to natural disasters. “Last year, the Army responded in an exemplary manner to the challenges along our borders and to the natural calamity in the Uttarakhand hills,” he said. “I join the people of India in paying tribute to those who, in the course of the past year, made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and reaffirm our support and solidarity for the bereaved families,” he added.

Singh further said that the government also remains committed to keep the Indian Army equipped, trained and ready for all its missions, and to ensure the welfare of those in service as well as ex-servicemen and their families.
