As New Zealand beat India by five wickets in the second and final Twenty20 cricket match on Friday, fans back home sought divine intervention for the team's success in the rest of the series involving five ODI's and three tests.

Fans of Mahendra Singh Dhoni offered prayers at an ancient temple here.

The fans placed masks of Dhoni and kept it along with other holy offerings as Dhoni usually visits the temple before embarking on a cricketing tour.

"We offered prayers for the victory of the Indian team in the cricketing series in New Zealand. We want Dhoni to win this series," said Jitendra Singh, President Mahendra Singh Dhoni fan club.

After the Fridays' win, New Zealand won the two-match Twenty20 series
2-0.

India will also play five one-dayers from March 3-14 before the first Test starts in Hamilton on March 18. The remaining two Tests will be played in Napier (March 26-30) and Wellington (April 3-7).
