Indian official held for taking bribe

The CBI on Thursday arrested a traffic superintendent, working with the cargo section of the Indian, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs15,000.

MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a traffic superintendent, working with the cargo section of the Indian at Bangalore, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs15,000 from a complainant.

A case was registered against S Parthasarthy under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on a complaint of a cargo handling agent regarding the demand of Rs15000 as bribe for allowing and forwarding of cargo through morning flight of Indian Airlines to Delhi, Kolkata and other destinations.

The complainant alleged that the accused was collecting part of the tariff difference between freight of Indian and other airlines as bribe from the cargo forwarders.

The CBI laid a trap and the officer was arrested while accepting the bribe at the international airport office in Bangalore. Searches at the residential premises of the accused led to the seizure of certain documents also.
