Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday warned that escalating hostility between India and Pakistan would further increase the agony and hardship of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We warn that hostility between India and Pakistan would further increase agony and hardship of the inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir and escalate violence in the sub-continent," former chief minister and a patron of the PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said at a function organised at the party's headquarters here.
Stressing on formulating a joint mechanism to solve the problem of terrorism, Sayeed said, "India and Pakistan have no choice but to jointly fight terrorism."
Sayeed condemned the Mumbai terror attacks but said peace process between the two countries should not be derailed.
"Leaders of both India and Pakistan must keep channels of communications open as dialogue is the only solution of all problems," he said.
The former chief minister also criticised the UPA government for allegedly being a mute spectator of Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza.
"Instead of strongly condemning the mass killing of innocent Palestinians by the Israelis, the UPA regime has been acting on the directions of the United States of America," he said.
Sayeed also alleged that the Congress-led coalition government at the Centre has abandoned the non-alignment policy and virtually surrendered its interests to the US.
