A day after illegal felling of trees took place in Hukumchand Colony, the members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lodged a complaint with Malharganj police station and guardian body--Indore Municipal Corporation in this regard on Thursday.
“We have lodged a complaint with the police and the IMC over the illegal felling of trees as we suspect that some big shots are involved in this,” AAP member Dr Radha Rathore.
However, neither the police have lodged an FIR nor the IMC taken any action in the issue.
When dna visited the site, the felled trees laid on the same spot and were not provided any security.
Residents wishing anonymity claimed that since the road (which has a U-turn at the beginning) has a nullah along side, it is dangerous for commuters and therefore it is being expended by the IMC.
“Trees have been cut to start the expansion work,” said a resident of Hukumchand Colony.
It is to be noted that the National Green Tribunal which is the special fast-track court for handling environmental cases in its order dated October 7 last year had stated, “No standing green trees in public places in the city of Indore shall be felled or cut for any project concerning the expansion of road.”
The order further stated that a tree may be translocated but not felled.
Environmentalist Kishore Kodwani who has approached the NGT over felling of trees in Indore for construction purposes said, “I will raise the issue with the IG Police tomorrow.”
The trees which have been felled were huge shady trees of Neem, Babool and Tamarind.
