As internet and social media cathces fancy of children, the authorities are on overdrive to raise awareness about cyber crime.
The police along with GD Goenka School conducted a ‘Sandesh-School Cyber Awareness Campaign’ on Sunday.
IG Varun Kapoor and DSP Sudeep Goenka spoke about the cyber crime and law.
Kapoor explained the pace of change in the growing technological world today through a multimedia presentation and the meaning of law and crime.
He said that “it is very important to be very careful about your internet access, as any ignorance or mistake can ruin your life.”
Goenka gave lessons on how to keep ourselves safe in the cyber world.
He wanted children to remember three major issues: one protecting your things, second being respectful to yourself and others and third being street smart.
The top three cyber crimes considered are virus attack with 54%, online scams with 11% and phishing with 10%. Chance of getting stuck in cyber crime is 1:2.2, i.e. almost every second person faces the threat of being a part of a scam. Some other important topics discussed included the meanings of cyber bullying, stalking and offences.
Participants also cleared their queries and asked some questions like how can we block adult sites for the computers used by our children, Is banning such websites a way to keep our country secure and many more.
